Case Study:
Fortune 500 High Tech Manufacturing Company
Cuts Product Development Process Cycle Times & Costs
The Challenge
As one of the world's leaders in inkjet printers, our client's volumes mean small improvements translate to large results. At the San Diego facility, parties to the product development process had no way to monitor changes to parts (like shaving a millimeter off a plastic gear) or how that change would affect other parts in the complex system that is a printer. The result was long delays as cost-cutting or quality improvement iterations were communicated through large groups of R&D, manufacturing, quality, procurement, and accounting personnel at locations across the globe.
The Solution
Silicon Space's Electronic Qualification of Change (EQOC) web-based application systematizes the life-cycle of part and process change management. It gives everyone involved in the new product manufacturing process (including engineers, testers, and production line workers) the opportunity to review and comment on proposed changes to specifications.
The Result
Silicon Space's EQOC application speeds the communication of approved changes, reduces production line downtime, and improves product quality. And, as the business and business rules have evolved, Silicon Space has continued to support and improve EQOC.
